Peter and Elsa lived at 225 Spruce Street in Ceresco NE. The home is still there (July 2004). Elsa caught her clothing on fire while cooking in this home in Ceresco NE. She died from the burns later that day. She was starting a fire in her cob stove using kerosene. Somehow she caught on fire and ran outside to neighbors for help. Her daughter Edith was close by and rode in the ambulance with her to Wahoo. Elsa, in great pain, sang hymns in Swedish all the way to the hospital. She sppoke a very broken English. Swedish was spoken by all while in her home. On the death certificate, George Ecklund gave her fathers name as Nels Pearson. The dates of birth and death on the death certificate differ from others I have collected buut they are what I have used here. It listed her name as Elsie. She came to America in 1887 and settled in Mead NE. Her obituary says she had 1 sister and 1 brother in Sweden at the time of her death. Her marriage date was listed as Oct 7 1887 iin that obituary. It also listed two surviving brothers, Ole Nelson of Fremont NE and Louie Nelson of Valparaiso NE. It said she had one sister and one brother in Sweden. Leonard Palm stayed with Peter and Elsa as a child. He said Elsa was nearly blind with cataracts when she died. Leonard said Peter was bedridden for a very long time before he died.
In the 1900 census, she said she had born 5 children and 4 were living. Her gravestone reads Elsie, so I added that name to my record.
