Miss Minnie Rudeen

Minnie Rudeen was born on a farm in the Bethlehem Community of Lancaster County, Nebraska. She went to be with her Lord on Friday evening, July 22, 1955, at the Midwest Covenant Home at Stromsburg, Nebraska. She was 72 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

She lived at the place of her birth and took her schooling in the community until she was 12 years old. The family then moved into the Ceresco Community, where she grew to womanhood. She was confirmed by Pastor Mostrom in 1901 in the Fridhem Mission Church. In 1915 she became a member of the Ceresco Covenant Church where she retained her membership until her death. For many years she worked in the hotel in Ceresco. Later she moved to Mead where she was employed for several years and then back to Wayoo where she worked and made her home until she came to the Midwest Covenant Home about 15 months ago.

Minnie Rudeen was a quiet unassuming person. She was of a cheerful happy disposition and had a fine sense of humor. She was faithful in her attendance at the worship services at the Home and enjoyed the Christian fellowship. About a month ago she was takes suddenly sick and had to be taken to the hospital for an emergency operation. When she was sufficiently recovered from this ordeal, she was returned to the Home again. She was getting along nicely and well on the road to recovery when she suffered a stroke which paralized her right side.

She was preceeded in death by both her parents and one brother, Harry. She is survived by two brothers, Walter of Stromsburg, and Lawrence of Ceresco, and one sister, Edith, Mrs. Ed Johnson also of Ceresco. There are also several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Peace over her memory.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon in the Covenant Church in Ceresco, Rev. R.E. Hammer officiating. Soloist was Mrs. Carl Sundberg with Mrs. Carl Mostrom at the organ. Pallbearers were Emerson Ransom, Delwin Rudeen, Stanley Rudeen, Warren Rudeen, Arvin Sundberg, and Carl Sundberg. Burial was made in the Fridhem Cemetery at Swedeburg.

22 Mar 1923 Jermain Whitehouse obituary
Jermain Erving Whitehouse was born in Oswego, N.Y. July 7, 1843. He came with his parents to Houston county, Minn, in 1856. Feb 1 1864 he enlisted in the 1st Minnesota Battery Light Artillery Volunteers and saw service under General Grant at Vicksburg, and was with Sherman on this March to the Sea. He received an Honorable Discharge June 30, 1865. He answered to the call of the Great Commander at 15 minutes of 4:00 o'clock Sunday p.m., March 11, 1923, dying by a stroke in his home in Houston. Had he lived till July 7 he would have been 80 years of age.

Previous to his enlistment, Mr. Whitehouse was married to Louise Appleby. After the war he settled in Money Creek and in 1869 was married to Dora Wilson, who died Dec. 15, 184. Mr Whitehouse was again married Sept. 24, 1885 to Mrs. Ella Whitney, who survives him. His children are as follows: Frank Erving Whitehouse, Norfolk, Neb., Mrs. Delo Viers and Fred Erving Whitehouse, Rushford, Minn., Mrs. Harry Smith of Houston and Vernon S. Whitehouse, Rodman, Iowa. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and one brother, Charles Whitehouse of Houston. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Presbyterian church, Rev. McKinney officiating. Prof. Wled had charge of the music. The burial was in Money Creek and services at the grave were conducted by the G.A.R. and the American Legion, who attend in a body and whose impressive ceremony was a fitting tribute to the worth and services of an honored veteran. The American Legion also furnished the pall-bearers.

The sympathy of our community goes out to the stricken family their sudden bereavement.
